Fuzzles 2.0

Fuzzles 2.0 | 10-8-2026 | 8 x 8 in | acrylic on canvas

ON RAINY DAYS, I LIKE TO STAY IN WITH MY RABBIT FUZZLES.

ON ANGRY DAYS, I PUT FUZZLES IN THE FREEZER.

WHEN I FEEL BETTER, I TAKE HIM OUT.

I’LL USUALLY GO GET A NEW FUZZLES THAT SAME DAY.

The last performance in the rehab talent show had been a skit by the counselors, in which I was one of the characters. Part of the costume was a shredded, sleeveless shirt with the words, “I Hate the Easter Bunny” painted on the front (that, as I was told, was their tamer alternative to the kind of outright blasphemy I’d scrawl onto my clothes). It was the next day and I was in my room painting scraps of cardboard. I asked myself, “If I were actually going to make a joke about a bunny, what would it be?” This is what spilled out of my brain.

Comedy has never been a goal of my art. As funny as my art often is, that’s never the point. When I make jokes with my art, they usually come from real pain or trauma, and poke fun at my very real emotional defects.

This is much sillier but still not entirely nonsense. In the moment I came up with this, I wasn’t feeling particularly happy or sane, so – while I never had a series of rabbits that I’d put in the freezer – this is still a reflection of my emotional state that morning. It was raining outside. I remember looking out the window as I painted – and feeling lonely, unappreciated, unloved, and – honestly – a little angry about it.

But when I looked down at my cardboard, saw what I’d painted and written, I smiled.

The original Fuzzles – painted way back in 2013.

Making art makes me feel better – about myself and about the world I live in. ‘Cuz life is funny. Life is fun. Sometimes it’s tough to keep that at the forefront of my mind. But Fuzzles helps.

This experience was wayyyyy back in 2013, when I started making art for the first time. More recently, I decided to make a few very small paintings that I could price more modestly than what I’ve otherwise been creating.

I’m not gonna burn up my best ideas on these TINY MASTERPIECES, so I’m stealing from some of my (more trivial) early paintings that I still like conceptually, but not visually.

So now you get Fuzzles 2.0.

I’m done touring the US for the moment. All of my shows for the next few months are in Florida. 2026 wraps up with Dunedin, Winter Park, Estero, Englewood, Miami, and Sarasota. 2027 will kick off in Naples. Find details for all of ’em on the Events page. I’ll be adding lots more as they get locked in. (If you’re not in Florida – CALM DOWN – I’ll be back out on the road by Spring).
